Clutter Cleanup

I’ve got a friend coming over today to help declutter my living room.  I’m looking forward to spending time with my friend, but I’m definitely not looking forward to the work.  I should really be locating boxes right now, but I’m procrastinating and writing this post instead.  How me is that?   I’m actually feeling a little ill, but not enough to reschedule.  Maybe I just need to eat lunch.

I have a great lunch planned.  I’m making summer salad with chicken, romaine lettuce, mandarin oranges, strawberries, apples, and raspberry vinaigrette.  (I had to look up how to spell that last one.)  I’m not sure if I want to add carrots.  I don’t usually mix those with my apples.  I considered toasting some of the walnuts my mother-in-law gave us, but I’m too lazy.

An update on BratzBasher’s first day of school:

It went fine, but her homework that night was to go through her assignment book/planner and write “L:” at the top of each day for each class and “H:” at the bottom.  For the entire school year.  They’ll be writing what they’re learning in class at the top of each day and what their homework is for that evening.  I think it was completely unnecessary and stu***, but I’m not in charge.

She’s got the former cheerleader for her gym teacher this year.  BB didn’t say whether her teacher used the “primary voice” or not.  Gym isn’t BB’s favorite class anyway. Other than that, I think BB’s happy with her teachers.

Seventh grade band is proving to be more of a challenge.  They’re scheduled to play with the local high school marching band at a football game later this month.  BB has to play the sousaphone so she can march.  The music is more difficult, too, and printed smaller.  Merkin is going to enlarge it for her from half to full sheet to make practice easier, but doesn’t it have to be small enough to fit in that lyre thingy?  Maybe they’re supposed to memorize it.  Or not.  I don’t know.

I’d better finish getting ready for my guest.  (Is she still a “guest” if I’m making her work?)  Now where did I put those boxes?

I tried decluttering the other day. It didn’t work. That is, I didn’t work. Hope your session went smoother.

I think it’s easier when there’s someone else there who’s pressuring you into dumping the junk. Find yourself a really pushy friend. They’re not emotionally attached to any of it — or reluctant to get rid of stuff in case they need it later. Although, my friend says, “When in doubt, keep it a little while longer.” Give yourself another month or three to use it, I suppose. If you don’t, then you can throw it out. I say, if it’s replaceable, then go ahead and toss it (as long as it isn’t too expensive) because you can always get another one if it turns out you really needed it later.
